Understanding Peace

Yikes! The year has come to a close all of a sudden after working on numerous amounts of photo projects all at the same time. It's sad to know that I won't be printing out projects like crazy for the next 3 months, but I'll be happy for a little break.

Understanding Peace

What do you guys make of that?

For my last photography project of the year in my Photo Arts 3 class, we had to make a final portfolio. I decided to shoot what I love doing best which is exploring nature and waterfalls. I sadly decided not to incorporate any sunsets in this project as Rochester weather has been quite crazy these past few weeks (try having snow a few times over the course of this past week/weekend, and it's May)!!

I shot mainly around Letchworth State Park down in Mount Morris, NY which is about an hour or so away from Rochester, Corbett's Glen in nearby Brighton/Penfield, NY, and at Mendon Ponds Park  in Pittsford and Mendon, NY. Pretty areas for sure. I also shot images out at the Papermill Waterfalls in Avon, NY but those images sadly didn't come out quite as good as I'd hoped. I however did incorporate an image that ruined the feel of the whole waterfall/landscape thing going on, but its an image of a lone farm next to a cornfield that I found down in rural Avon. The whole class contested to this, and next time, even though it's a good photo, I'll chose not to show it.

For this project, I chose to show 10 final 8x10" images that I'd printed out with my usual Epson Luster photo paper, and then matted them with a white border. Who knew it was so tough finding the back to support the Window Matte and the photo itself? (Thanks to the photo cage for undocking me for about an hour or so this morning! Appreciate it!)

Oh yeah, I had to come up with my own artist statement which I'll show in the next post coming up shortly with my images.

Hope you guys like them!

More coming soon. -L

Spring at RIT

It's nearing the end of my third quarter here at RIT, and an interesting year it has been! This past quarter has been a better one than my first two quarters here, mainly because of the weather I think. Winter quarter was hectic, and tough especially with all that cold mighty air.

Funny enough, last week on Tuesday (April 27) we RIT students witnessed SNOW falling down from the sky. Four days later, today, on Saturday May 1st, we are witnessing a day of heat which is alright, but when it's this sticky, it's not too pleasant.

Going to Imagine RIT today, it was surprisingly full of people scattered among campus. Wow. I must say this is a first that I have seen that has gathered so many visitors, students, faculty/staff, and parents alike from the greater Rochester area.

Here's a picture that I took of the sunset from my dorm building on campus, and yes, I know the buildings aren't pretty but just look at the sky. So pretty!

spring cleaning

Spring's almost (or is) here! Just thought it'd be nice to do some spring cleaning on my laptop, especially since I just had to get a whole new hard drive on here. Couldn't even back it up, so I lost quite a bit of stuff, but thankfully none of my important photos and stuff! I lost my beloved Bridge/Photoshop/Adobe files, but I still have MS Word luckily! :) Had to reinstall Lightroom (LR), but some of my fall quarter photos on there still exist (even though some of the data's missing or unavailable). I have to go figure out how to re-create a better workflow on LR as I'll be using that for awhile now as I miss my beloved Photoshop (PS) /Bridge -Adobe Camera Raw (ACR).

Here's a old photo that I found from last fall and re-edited just now knowing that my editing skills for photographs are somewhat better these days.

Taken in downtown Rochester last fall probably mid September 2009. -Linds

Crunch Time!

As all RITers know it, it's crunch time- meaning it's 9th week. One more week to go before the end of winter classes and exams. I'm hoping not to have any exams but who knows? Anyways, I was out last night shooting ideas for my metaphor project, and came up with this. Tweaked it a little bit in photoshop, but I like it. Feedback appreciated. Thanks.

Fake TIME Magazine Cover

At the crack of dawn TODAY.. I had a project due and it was the magazine cover. I really like this creation of mine. The layout's pretty simple but I just really love the picture of my friend Bobby. I'm sure he'd like it too if he saw it! Hope y'all liked it during class. I'm sure I'll do another magazine cover sometime just for fun :)

Peace.

2nd Quarter at RIT is almost over!!

Hey everyone,

I've been pretty busy these past couple of weeks with school. I can't believe 8th week has flown by and before I know it, we'll be onto the 9th week of this winter quarter! I still can't believe that I've been at RIT now for two quarters. Feels like yesterday when I moved into RIT housing back in August 2009. Time flies when you don't blink your eyes and then you are like whoa..

Soo... my classes have been keeping me busy. H&A's the usual, Photo Arts 2 has been quite interesting the past week or so. Gave in my magazine cover today. Will show the image next blog. Next up is to work on my Metaphor project.. which is supposedly due next Thursday. Let's see if I can come up with ideas on that one!

thoughts influenced by the triptych.

After going to that "open house" tonight from 4-5 (class time) where all of us Photo Arts 2 Students displayed our work.. I've come to the conclusion that it was not what I expected it to be. I noticed that my PA2 section's pictures were quite modest compared to all the other sections. Those sections' photos displayed photos that had numerous amounts of nudity, and otherwise showed images that should be flagged. Quite a few brought up suicidal tendencies or just fit under the category of being "emo". Anyone else agree with me on that? Just my opinion on this matter.

On the other hand, it's time to start working on that magazine cover project as well as the metaphor project. I can't believe we're only mere weeks away from finishing up the quarter. It's week 7 already! It will have been my second quarter here at RIT and onto the third!

Damn, time flies..

The TRIPTYCH

There's a project that I just recently completed this morning, and I'd like to share it with you all. It's a triptych-photograph- one of the numerous assignments I have had for my Photo Arts 2 class this past winter quarter. Shooting this assignment was quite fun to do.

Here's the triptych that I gave in for my deadline today. Thanks to Joel Campos for being my model! =)

Anyways, I can't wait until 4pm so I can see the result of what other's triptychs look like! We are going to have a showing among the 4 Photo Arts 2 classes being taught this quarter and get to see others creations. It should be fun!

Peace out,
Linds.
